Bicycling in Copenhagen

Posted by raymond on August 20, 2007

In May, I made a post where I wrote about bicycling in Copenhagen. Today, via Evilvlog, I found out about “A billion bikes”, which has a series of videos about bicycling in Copenhagen. Here is the first of their videos about Copenhagen:

I had never heard about ABillionBikes, but this sure looks very interesting! I have always been a fan of urban use of bicycles (not just for green-treehugging reasons), and I will surely check out the youtube channel for this site.

For instance, I would love to get to know more about the bicycling culture in China. How is that changing as cars become more popular?

By the way, did you know that today, 1/3 of the people of Copenhagen use their bike to commute to work? Yes, 33%!

And the city of Copenhagen wants to increase this further!

Yes, by comparison less then 10% of people in LA use any form of public transportation. Or so I read on wikipedia. I hope you realize how lucky you are to live in copenhagen. One day I must visit you there and spend a week.

It’s not just the biking, it’s the architecture, the planning the spaces. It’s so condensed/ compressed.

That video was just amazing. There are not spaces like that in all of america. Anywhere. The closest I’ve seen was in the little mountain side walking only community of Vail, Co… but it’s just a make believe thing modeled after the idealized european ski towns.

It’s remarkable that that whole ride was entirely pedestrian only streets.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. I just wish it were safer in these states to cycle around. Not only can we be run off the road, theft is also a major issue. Maybe I should move to Copenhagen…
