The Internet Archive and vlogging
Brewster Kahle has some pretty interesting points of view at an interview with SiliconBeat. Dylan Verdi, or any other 11-year old blogger and in the future vlogger might today be rather anonymous, but their tracks in the digital world might flare up. Indeed, Dylan herself was features on an ABC article on blogging recently, and I think that she might become a real vlogging star.
The possible stardom of a few individuals aside, the consequences for this is enormous. If the Internet Archive would be able to continue hosting vlogging entries, even after vlogging gains critical mass - - wow. Server space and bandwidth issue for individuals would be no barrier anymore! Imagine the possibilities!
At least here in Norway, digital cameras and cell phones with camera were given as presents to tens if not hundreds of thousands of Norwegians this christmas. Today, perhaps Tom aged 15 might see that his Ixus has a camera function, but he still just uses it for party snapshots. But… what if he first realizes that he can upgrade his memory card and then perhaps take a 5 minute shot of something he finds interesting, and then later edit that.
Dylan Verdi is learning to edit her own movies. She belongs to a generation that is more tech-savvy than I ever dared children could get. Give the development a few more years and people putting vlog entries online will seem as simple as it is today to post on blogger.com
